Presidential Endorsement

After much thought and prayer I have decided to endorse John McCain for President. He is not my ideal candidate. Duncan Hunter is who I would support if he had any reasonable chance of winning. I do not believe McCain/Feingold is constitutional and I am not thrilled with some of his past tax positions; however, he is fiscally responsible and abhors out-of-control spending. I am more closely aligned with his immigration policies than the average conservative. Additionally, I believe he could challenge Shrillery Clinton or Barack Hussein Obomba in key purple states: Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Oregon.

I begin by recalling the profound words of Ronald Reagan at the Conservative Political Action Conference Feb. 15, 1975: "A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency or simply to swell its numbers." We believed that then, and I believe it now. The issue for us -- and for the conservative community -- boils down to which of the candidates is most representative of the fundamental conservative principles we believe in. The answer is Fred Thompson. Now I demand you retract your previous endorsement and pick up the FRED '08 banner...and do it now.
